Review of Highway Services in Chemung County

Chemung County Expansion of Highway Services Consolidation and Shared Services Study

In partnership with the Laberge Group, an Albany-based engineering firm, the institute is revieing local and countywide highway service delivery for Chemung County and its 17 municipalities. The effort, which has received funding from the New York State Shared Services Program, will identify opportunities for cost savings, quality improvement and increased efficiencies in highway maintenance services across the central New York county. To meet those objectives, consideration will be given to service sharing as well as service expansion and consolidation. Chemung County has already taken a step forward in this area by forming a Highway Services Board to oversee county and municipal highway services. The program will release findings, including policy recommendations and related fiscal impacts, by December 2009.
